We are exploring the winter environment through hands-on investigations, observations, questions, and representations.
We enjoy observing and experimented with snow, ice, wind, tracks, as we question and inquire about our natural and built environments.
We are always looking closely at our natural world. As a class we record what we see, what we think and finally what we are still wondering.
"I wonder what might have made this little hole, maybe a snake... maybe a mouse?
We discovered that it was likely a mouse because with further research we learned that:
Cold-blooded animals like fish, frogs, snakes and turtles have no way to keep warm during the winter. Snakes and many other reptiles find shelter in holes or burrows, and spend the winter inactive, or dormant. This is similar to hibernation.
"The windsock blows faster when we are farther from the school! i wonder why?"
"Lets build our own fort with snow and ice."
"I wonder if it will be strong enough and big enough to hide from the wind."
